I’ll bet you think I’m going to say they all ‘called Jenny’. While that would be a true statement, it’s not what I had in mind. The commonality I found most interesting was all three women use journaling as a vital part of their weight loss regime. Kirstie Alley, who lost 75 pounds and has kept if off since 2006, still journals about the foods she eats and their calorie count as well as how she’s feeling at the time.
She’s also using the Jenny Craig plan to help maintain her weight loss, usually eating at least one ‘Jenny’ meal every day. Jenny’s Cuisine is the name given to the extensive variety of pre-packaged prepared meals at the core of the program. They’re packaged in single servings to assist you in learning appropriate portion size and control.
Valerie Bertinelli achieved her goal weight loss of 40 pounds with the help of Jenny Craig’s food program. She also journals her progress and in fact has a blog on the Jenny Craig website. Both Valerie and Kirstie also incorporate activity into their busy schedule. Kirstie gets a lot of her exercise from dancing and Valerie combines walking (at least 10,000 steps a day and with a weight vest, no less!) and going to the gym. If these incredibly talented busy celebrities can find the time to exercise, there’s really no excuse for the rest of us.
The most recent celebrity to give Jenny a call is Queen Latifah, and she too has already started a journal of her journey into health. For her it’s not about the numbers on the scale. Queen Latifah has always had a confidence about her appearance, regardless of her weight. She says she’s doing this to stay healthy so she can stay around a long, long time. You can read her blog on the Jenny Craig website to follow her progress.
So what makes Jenny Craig so special that these celebrities have chosen to lose weight with them? One thing that gets mentioned often is the one on one support from the Jenny Craig consultants. All three women mentioned how much help their consultants had been.
Another thing the women found beneficial is the food. They all agree it’s delicious and doesn’t leave them feeling hungry or deprived. (How could you feel deprived on a diet that allows chocolate?) They love the ease and flexibility of meal preparation and it saves them a ton of time.
The success so many have had with Jenny Craig has to be in part to their three-pronged approach to weight loss. They realize it’s more than just a food issue; it’s a relationship with food issue. So they teach you how to eat healthier and control your portion sizes.
Weight loss is also a body issue and Jenny Craig personalizes an activity plan for you based on your lifestyle and physical capabilities. Activity is gradually increased to maximize your weight loss efforts.
The third area addressed is your mind and for that your personal consultant is there to keep you motivated, encourage you through the rough spots and celebrate with you all your successes. I don’t know if Jenny Craig is as good a fit for you as it was for these three famous ladies, but it worked well for them and has been working well for others since 1983.
