Free Diet Plans – 7 “Must–Have” Things to Look For

Posted in Diet and Nutrition, Fat Loss, Weight Loss on April 14th, 2008

If you look hard enough, you can find a large number of free diet plans online, along with many paid versions. You don’t necessarily have to spend money on a diet plan for it to work and be effective.  But what works for one person may not work for someone else.

The good news is there are so many diets available, you’re sure to find one just right for you. Whether you’re into low carbohydrates or low fat, high protein or high volume, there are diet plans to accommodate that. You can find free diet plans based on your age, your gender, even your blood type. But in order to have the greatest chance of successful weight loss, there are 7 things that should be included in any diet plan, free or otherwise.

1. A good diet plan will offer advice that makes sense. If you’re being encouraged to disregard any of the major food groups, for instance, you may want to keep looking. If the overall plan doesn’t appear healthy or if any other aspect sends up a red flag, think twice before choosing it. There are too many free diet plans available that offer sensible, healthy eating to wind up stuck with one that doesn’t.

2. Another component of a good diet plan is the ability to come back for help if you gain a few pounds. There should be a maintenance plan in place and the best diet plans offer a jumpstart or quick start to give you a little ‘almost’ instant gratification.

3. A successful diet plan must be one you can live with easily. Let’s be honest, if it doesn’t fit into your lifestyle, what are the chances you’ll be able to stick to it?

4. It must be healthy and increase your energy levels. Diets that only allow a handful of food choices or severe caloric restrictions will drain you of energy and leave you feeling cranky and fatigued. Exercise should be encouraged and the diet plan should allow enough food for you to have the energy to do it.

5. A good diet plan will offer flavorful foods. One of the biggest complaints about many diets is that they’re simply too boring. And when you get bored with what you’re eating is when you’re likely to go off your diet.

6. The ability to carry out the diet must be based on reality – and the reality is we all lead very busy lives. Few of us are able to spend hours in the kitchen creating time-consuming recipes day after day. Most of us work outside the home and must have meals that can be taken, and in some cases also eaten, on the go.

7. The whole diet plan should offer flexibility, in meal planning as well as exercise. Some days you’ll be pressed for time and need to create a meal quickly, maybe even without having to cook; you should have that option. Foods you don’t like or may be allergic to should be able to be swapped out for others more palatable to you. For your exercises, there should be alternatives available for those you may be unable to perform.

Many free diet plans are available to anyone who wants to look for them. If you’ll use this check list as a guide, you can find a perfect one for you that will work within your lifestyle.
